Learning Targets and assessment in art

Hi, folks.  This post is a work in progress.  Right now, I really wanted to post these targets so you all have access to them, however, I would like to write more about my philosophy and will continue to add to this narrative below...

I find that it is important to recognize that although jumprope is a great way to report out on the
learning targets, art is PORTFOLIO based and that students have a collection of artwork to
show that can allow for reflection and assessment to take place.  Viewing that portfolio is key to
understanding the jumprope reporting. Every student should be keeping a google folder as a
working portfolio of their work that they can access from any computer. Please, ask to see it.
It should contain ALL their work (bad and good). I also find narrative form of reporting out to be
important--I will try to give a brief explanation of projects when jumprope reports are sent out,
and this blog will go into more detail --- For each project we break down the Create component into specific “goals” that would fit under the idea of “grainsize” and students are aware of this--knowing those goals allows for students to assess their own work and be able to explain the "why" of the number they received attached to any learning target.

The key for me with students is growth over time focusing especially on how they work through the artistic process. Being able to slow down and thoughtfully work through this process is what allows them to achieve proficiency and beyond. The goal is for them to have it down from Brainstorm to Present by the time they leave here in 8th grade!
