8th grade tesselations and metamorphoses

This past fall, 8th graders had the option of choosing to create a tesselation or a metamorphoses, both very "traditional" art/design problems that are used in art classes.  I had to make them in high school and college.  What I tried to do with it, though, was to encourage students to do some research and to use media and ways of working that would let them go in the direction of their choosing, using the Artistic Process.  Creativity with constraints.  What I found happeneed is that students went deep conceptually, as well as visually, something that I wasn't even considering.  I love my students and their creativity.
